You can search for any word or phrase on the site by typing the
word or phrase into the query field and clicking the search
button.
Examples and guides of using searches are shown
below.
Searches produce a list of files that contain the word or phrase
no matter where they appear in the text. The list below gives the
rules for searching the site effectively:
- If searching for a particular phrase, quotation marks should be
used to surround the phrase, e.g. "Microsoft Windows XP". Results
containing the entire phrase will always be ranked higher than
other results.
- It is not necessary to use boolean keywords such as OR and AND
in your search term. The seach engine automatically performs
searches of this type.
- Searches are case-insensitive, so you can enter the text you
wish to search for in uppercase or lowercase.
- You can search for any word except for those in the exception
list (for English, this includes a, an, and, as, and other common
words), which are ignored during a search.
- The wildcard character (*) can be used to match one or more
letters in any position in a word or phrase. The query teach*
matches the terms "teacher" "teaches" and so on.
Automatic Boolean Searches
The search engine automatically deals with Boolean-like
searches, meaning it is not necessary to include them in your
search term. If you search for the words "library" and "gallery",
pages which contain both words will be ranked higher than words
containing only one of the search terms.
Wildcard
Wildcard searches help you find pages containing words similar
to a given word.
